BRURAA History

A journey of unity, growth and service since 2008

Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) was established in 2008 as one of the premier public universities of Bangladesh. Named after the legendary feminist writer and social reformer Begum Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain, the university has since produced thousands of accomplished graduates who are now serving the nation and the world. The BRUR Alumni Association (BRURAA) was formed to bring these graduates together under a single, organized platform.

2008
University Established

Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur was officially inaugurated as a public university in Rangpur, Bangladesh, beginning its academic journey with a handful of departments.

2012
First Batch Graduates

The first batch of students completed their undergraduate programs, marking the birth of the university's alumni community. These pioneers laid the foundation for what would become BRURAA.

2018
BRURAA Formally Proposed

As the number of BRUR graduates grew significantly, formal discussions began among alumni across different batches and departments to establish an organized alumni association.

2022
Constitution Drafted

A dedicated committee drafted the BRURAA constitution — outlining the governance structure, membership criteria, objectives, and code of conduct for the association.

2023
Constitution Adopted

The BRURAA constitution was formally adopted at a general meeting of alumni representatives, and the association was officially registered and recognized.

2024
Membership Drive Launched

The first formal membership enrollment drive was launched online and physically, inviting all BRUR graduates to officially join the association.

2026
1st Executive Committee Election

The first-ever democratic election for the BRURAA Executive Committee was held, with hundreds of members casting votes to elect their leaders for the first time.
